The only question we had in selecting Jim Sisti as the 2018 NEMCON honoree was, "What took us so long?" He has been associated with the Connecticut magic scene for more than 40 years, but his reputation spans the globe.
Jim was a popular Connecticut radio personality for 12 years before turning to magic full time. His career encompasses local nightspots and restaurants, trade shows, amusement parks, and the off-Broadway stage. His client lists boasts numerous Fortune 500 companies and celebrities such as actor Richard Dreyfuss. He and his wife, Sandy, have been the park magicians at Quassy Amusement Park for 15 years. He also was the house magician at the Chowder Pot III in Branford for 12 years. (January, 2018, marks his return to the Chowder Pot!)
Jim has edited and produced hundreds of books and DVDs on magic and mentalism. His articles, columns and effects have appeared in MAGIC, Genie, M-U-M, and Apocalypse. He currently is a freelance copyeditor for L & L Publishing and collaborates with well-known mentalist Richard Osterlind.
Jim also produced The Magic Menu, a periodical that has become known in the magic world as the Bible for restaurant workers. It ran for 11 years and contained tricks and valuable advice for restaurant, bar and close-up workers. It has been republished in book form and continues to be a source of reference and inspiration for walk-around magicians worldwide. He also hosted Talk About Magic, a weekly Internet program, for almost 8 years.
Jim is active in S.A.M. Assembly #29 and I.B.M. Ring #59 and has served as assembly president and auctioneer at the club's popular semi-annual auction. In the past, he has sponsored his own convention and has always been supportive of NEMCON.
He once said, "When magic speaks at a higher level, it approaches art." We are most proud to name magic artist Jim Sisti as the 2018 NEMCON honoree.
